How to Apply for a Solar Rebate

If you’re looking at solar installers melbourne, you’ve surely heard of solar rebates. With a rebate, the government helps you pay for a new solar system.

But how exactly do you go about getting one?

The first step in getting a solar rebate is checking if you are eligible for one.

Whether you’re eligible for a solar rebate or not will depend on many factors, such as your location and income. Whether you are applying for a solar rebate Melbourne-wide or Sydney-wide, Sunstainable provides solar installation all over Australia.

Different states have different rebates available. In this guide, we will show you the process for how to apply for a solar rebate in Victoria. This process may vary for other states.

Different Rebates

Throughout Australia, there are different types of solar rebates. Each state and territory offers their own rebates which have their own eligibility factors.

Even within a state, there are multiple rebates available.

For instance, in Victoria, there are separate rebates for different solar-based products, including panels, hot water and batteries, and more. Each rebate is set at a limited amount. Once you have found your relevant rebate, check through the eligibility factors and make sure that you meet them.

If you’re after a solar rebate in Melbourne or wider Victoria, the necessary information can be found on the Solar Victoria website.

You can find more information about the rebates available in other states here.

Ask for a Quote

Once you’ve decided which rebate you want to apply for, the next step is to contact an authorised energy supplier to get a quote. After you and your energy supplier have agreed to install the solar panels, they will upload your quote to the relevant solar portal. This enables you to begin the online application.

Submit your Application

After your quote has been submitted, you should receive a confirmation email from the government solar portal.

Follow the links to the government solar portal. Now we need to confirm your eligibility and details.

Follow the prompts and have the following documents ready:

  • Two forms of identification
  • Proof of income for every homeowner
  • Proof of property ownership for every homeowner

When you have finished submitting your information, you will receive a confirmation email. This email will come with a unique eligibility number and QR code.

This code will need to be scanned by your energy supplier, to ensure you get your rebate.

Get your New Solar System

After your energy supplier scans your QR code, they are good to start installing your solar system. Make an appointment for an installation. This will need to be done within 120 days of your code being received. For houses currently under construction, this is extended to 240 days. Once your system is installed, you are ready to start enjoying the benefits of solar power!

Things to Keep in Mind

  • If your house is still under construction, you need your builder’s permission to have solar installed.
  • If you want to connect to the grid, make sure that your installation has Distribution Network Service Provider pre-approval.
